Would you like to rideshare, but are worried about being stranded at work? Don't worry! RIDE Solutions understands that you need an "insurance policy" to protect you when an emergency situation arises. Our Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program provides 4 FREE emergency rides per year on days when you use alternative transportation.
RIDE Solutions has contracted with several local transportation providers. If an emergency arises and you need to get home, simply call one of these transportation providers, explain to them that you're a RIDE Solutions member and they will help you.
To make life easier for you, we have made arrangements to pay the providers via a voucher system. You DO NOT have to pay them. When you become a GRH member, you'll receive one voucher to be used for the first GRH. Simply present this voucher, along with your membership card, to the provider when the transportation service is rendered. Be sure to keep a copy of the voucher and mail it to RIDE Solutions. Once RIDE Solutions receives and approves the first used voucher, we will mail the second voucher to you within 10 business days.
Who Is Eligible
You qualify for the Guaranteed Ride Home program if:
You use alternative transportation - carpool, vanpool, walk, bike, or use transit - to commute to work at least twice a week.
You use alternative transportation on the day you use the GRH service.
You are traveling FROM your worksite.
The trip is for an emergency only.
What Constitutes an Emergency?
It's an emergency if:
You or an immediate family member suffers an illness, injury, or severe crisis
You are asked by your supervisor to work unscheduled overtime.
Your carpooling vehicle breaks down or the driver has to leave early.
You have a break-in, flood, or fire at your residence.
Your rideshare partner becomes unavailable.
If you are walking or biking, sudden bad weather can also justify a Guaranteed Ride Home use.
How do I become a GRH member?
It's simple! If you already use alternative transportation, or want to be matched up for a carpool partner, fill out an application. Once you are registered, you will receive your membership card and first Guaranteed Ride Home voucher.

All cab companies will pick you up at your door and usually respond within 15-20 minutes. When the cab arrives, present the driver with your voucher and your GRH membership card. Keep a copy of the voucher and mail it to RIDE Solutions to receive your next voucher.
The Smart Way Bus runs between the Roanoke and New River Valley Monday- Saturdays. Commuters that travel this route are required to use the bus instead of taking a cab Monday-Saturdays during hours that the bus is operating.
